3D Sound - Definition
3D Sound refers to audio technology that use techniques to trick our ears into positing sounds in three dimensions. Until recently, most computer generated sound was stereophonic where sounds could only be heard and appear to us from the left or right, with no real depth. When we hear things in the physical world, our ears pick up a variety of audible clues that tell us that a train is approaching quickly, from behind and to the left, and that it’s remarkably near. Today’s 3D sound cards from Aureal and Creative Labs incorporate 3D Sound audio techniques into their cards.
