ASCII - Definition
ASCII is an abbreviation for for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. It is a coding scheme that assigns numbers to 256 characters, including text, numbers, punctuation marks, and certain special characters. ASCII is divided into two sets: 128 characters (known as standard ASCII) and an additional 128 known as extended ASCII. The extra characters were added so they could represent non-English characters such as graphics symbols and mathematical symbols etc.
