Bit - Definition
Bit is the smallest unit of information in a computer, equivalent to a single zero or a one. The word “bit” is a contraction of a binary digit. Eight bits are needed to create a single alphabetical or numerical character, such as a single key contained on your keyboard, which is called a byte.
