Browser Sniffing - Definition
Browser Sniffing is the process by which a web site detects which versions of various browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, users are running, to determine whether or not they can access certain web site features. Browser sniffing is usually performed with JavaScript and can also be used to detect if a user has a required plug-in to access the site such as Adobes Flash or Real Networks Real Player.
