Cable Modem - Definition
A Cable Modem is a device connected to or integrated in a PC that enables you to receive and request information from the Internet over your local cable TV line. Cable modems provide throughput of up to 27 Mbps with about 2.5 Mbps of bandwidth for interactive responses in the other direction. This bandwidth far exceeds that of the prevalent 56 Kbps modems and the up to 128 Kbps of ISDNs or even the much higher speeds (up to 8 Mbps) of ADSL telephone connections.
