Your user account password is the password that you use to Log On to Windows Vista™ when your system fully boots or when your computer wakes up from various power saving states. A good habit includes changing your password regularly and also creating a password reset disk described below.

To Create A Password Reset Disk

1. Click the Start button located in the lower-left corner of the Windows Vista desktop.
2. Then click on Control Panel.
3. In the Control Panel, click on User Accounts and Family Safety.
4. Then click on User Accounts.
5. In the left pane, click on Create a password reset disk.
6. When the Forgotten Password Wizard window appears, click on Next.
7. Portable media for the password reset disk is required such as a flash drive or a floppy disk.
8. Locate the I want to create a password key disk in the following drive: drop down box.
9. Then choose the portable media drive you will be using and click on Next to continue.
10. With your chosen media still in the drive, enter your current password in the text box.
11. Then click on Next, where Windows Vista will then create the password reset disk for you.
12. When the progress indicator shows 100% complete, click on Next and then Finish.
13. You can now remove the flash drive or floppy disk from your computer.
14. Now label the media and store it safely in case you ever need to retrieve your password.

Note: A password reset disk can only be created for local user accounts. If your computer is on a domain, a network administrator is required to modify and/or reset your domain logon password.
