Edge Device - Definition
An Edge Device is a physical device capable of forwarding packets between legacy interworking interfaces (Ethernet, Token Ring, etc.) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) interfaces based on data link and network layer information but does not participate in the running of any network layer routing protocol. It obtains forwarding descriptions using the route distribution protocol.
