MIDI - Definition
MIDI is an abbreviation for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It is an industry standard protocol that enables electronic musical instruments, computers and other equipment to communicate, control and synchronize with each other. Thus, music can be converted to a software program, can be read by a computer, and manipulations can be made to create new sounds. A variety of programs are available that allow the composing and editing of music based on the MIDI protocol standard.
