POST - Definition
POST is an abbreviation for Power On Self-Test. It consists of several diagnostic programs that are loaded automatically from the ROM BIOS during startup. Its main purpose is to perform basic tests on the major system components such as the CPU, Input/Output (I/O) devices and Memory (RAM). If there are no problems during the POST, the computer will move on to load the Operating System.
