StarOffice is a full-featured Office Suite developed by Sun Microsystems, Inc. The Suite contains a Word Processor, a Spreadsheet, a Database, a Presentation Application and more. It supports most Microsoft Office formats (except for the formats introduced in Office 2007). However, it does allows you to save your files into the Adobe Reader Portable Document Format (PDF) right out of the box.
All of the programs are rich in features and capable of providing adequate functionality for both business and home users. The software normally retails for around $69.95, but it’s now available for free as part of the Google Pack. As StarOffice is a rather large download, you should download it via a fast Internet connection. The Sun Java Runtime Environment is also included for full functionality.
