Windows Vista™ includes a security feature known as User Account Control (UAC). It is designed to reduce the potential of security breeches in a computer by forcing local administrative group users to run like regular users with no administrative privileges. However, some users find it very annoying because of the additional mouse clicking it adds to their system. Here is how you can turn UAC off.
To Turn User Account Control Off
- Click the Start button located in the lower-left corner of the Windows Vista desktop.
- Then click on Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, click on User Accounts and Family Safety.
- Then click on User Accounts.
- Now click Turn User Account Control on or off.
- If you are prompted for a password or confirmation, enter it or provide confirmation.
- Uncheck the box next to Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
- By Unchecking this box, User Account Control will be turned off.
- Then click on OK to apply the settings.
- Windows Vista will then prompt you to reboot your computer.
Note: Disabling User Account Control will lead to a less secure system, so be warned.
