XON/XOFF - Definition
XON/XOFF refers to an A asynchronous communications flow control protocol that prevents a sending system from transmitting data faster than a receiving system can accept it. The receiving computer sends an XOFF control character to pause the transmission of data when the buffer becomes full, and then sends an XON character when it is ready to continue with the transmission.
